But I think I would not have lasted this long if I’m not doing it the right way for the vast majority of the people who watch football. Because you and I both know that if a million people rip you, 329 million people are not ripping you. Now, when you say “get it,” does this mean that in a country of 330 million people, if 10 people rip you or whatever adjective the internet wants to use, like, the internet blows up? Well, I laugh at that. We’re all going to get it from time to time. Tony Romo was the flavor of the month when he came in. Everybody gets into the crosshairs at some point. ![]() Look, we live in a world that did not exist 20 or 25 years ago. It was also the first time where I saw some people say things to the effect of Al’s not selling the schedule enough or Al’s not as engaged as he used to be. Last year, we saw Tony Romo get a lot of criticism. Criticism can be cyclical, meaning it’s always everybody’s time at some point, and especially on social media. You’ve been in the business a long time, and I know that you read a lot of stuff. We want to get to that point, and I think we will. I’m not sure that can happen necessarily with Mark at the outset, but I think that is our goal. I mean, Fred and I got to the point after 22 years where we didn’t even have to talk to each other - our minds were a meld in so many ways. We kind of know how we’ll get to know our rhythms better. So in terms of the comparability, I know who Mark is. Mark learned much of what he knows from (longtime “Sunday Night Football” producer) Fred Gaudelli and, of course, I worked with Fred for 22 seasons. ![]() Mark and I had a lot of discussions during the offseason about what we wanted to do. I think this is a more comfortable situation than it would normally be because I’ve known Mark for some time. For a play-by-play broadcaster, what does it mean to have a new producer? “Thursday Night Football” will have a new lead producer this season in Mark Teitelman. Otherwise, it’s pretty much just keeping up with the times and having a feel for the audience. My fundamentals are still the same: inform, entertain and get it right. What is something concrete that would explain your growth as an NFL broadcaster from your first game in an NFL booth to today? You have been calling NFL games at a national level for some time.
